Jimmy Johns - I can't get Italian Vinigrette on the side?
I've oredered from Jimmy Johns 2 times now, and both times had a long trip home. I asked for the Italian Vinegrette to be put seperatly on the side and they've said no.
When asked why, they said it had to do with helath codes. This is ridiculous, as I always get my condiments on the side, otherwise they slather the sandwich in it. When pressed further, it was said to be a corporate policy. I orederd an Italian sub, with only lettuce and tomato.
I asked if i could taste the vinigrette, if they could give me a sample on a clean spoon, and they refused, again first citing health codes, then relenting and citing corporate policy. Finally, I chose to take sub home and put my own vinegrette on it. The first sub i got had onions on it. The second one, begrudgingly made by a scowling young lady, had mayo piled on it.
The third one had no tomatoes. By the time I left, I was fuming. Why do I have to pay for sub with a condiment on it that I'm not sure I like?
Any why will they not allow it on the side, then cover up thier corporate policy by citing health regs? They will not get business again!

I hear a lot of โmake the sauce yourself at homeโ...how about we make the sauce and sandwiches at home and save our money... then you all can find a job somewhere else.
Itโs called customer service.. I mean the sandwiches arenโt cheap; therefore, Iโm sure corporate can afford to supply a condiment cup. I know the employees donโt make the rules; but think outside the box, understand you are a customer too..
lol health codes... thatโs a cute and unlogical excuse.
As some of the *** employees have said in the comments, they don't have containers or spoons so it couldn't be done easily. Makes sense.
Maybe start with that next time instead of some *** lie about health codes.
Also, I just got refused bacon on the side because "we can't do things on the side" which is weird cause last week a different employee put it on the side no problem.
Guess you just have to hope to not get a *** bag employee.
At my jj's we didn't have plastic spoons so you wouldnt be able to taste, and there's no to-go sauce containers either so i'm not quite sure what you expect them to do? it's literally a bit of salt, red vinegar, and oil. make it yourself at ho me if it's so necessary
Because it is corporate policy. We do not have sauce so you can take it to go.
Stop being so *** bitter and grow the *** up. It is just oilc, vineagar and salt. If you dont like thosw then you won't like the sauce.
Don't yell at the employees. As a JJs veteran talk to corporate if you have a complaint, because the in-shops and drivers don't care and can't solve your issue.
you sir sound like a very closed minded, angry, bitter old man.
id say the only close minded people in this scenario would be jimm johns for refusing to offer side cups of sauce to take home. Everyy single other sub shop has little plastic cups for this specific purpose and yah give me a break-no health code or corporate policy is stopping them from doing the same.
This is a fact! Sounds like a lack of ability to accommodate their customers, which, is also classified as poor customer service.
You guys are all really funny. "Health violation" lol give me a break.
How would that even make sense? If putting sauce in a plastic ramekin is a jeopardy to health and safety, then the sauce itself should jeaporadize health and safety. "It's about speed". Shut the *** up.
I used to work at JJ's back when they DID do sauce on the side. And it took about 1.5 seconds to do. To all you wondering why JJ's doesn't offer sauce on the side anymore, the answer is CORPORATE GREED.
If a corporation can make a little extra money, even if it's incredibly miniscule, they will do it. They realized that not letting customers have SOS allowed them to no longer purchase the little plastic ramekins they used to put it in.
And? It is their choice not to buy those little cups.
Exactly. They want to save money.
So they LIE and say โ oh itโs agaisnt the health codeโ... WTF does the health code have to do with sauce in a cup. So I guess I have to drink my fountain soda straight from the fountain ???
Bogus... there nothing worse than a liar!
we dont need your business sir please never come back :)
I work there and the reason being we can't give it to you on the side, is because we don't have little cups or anything to put it in, we make the sauce every morning, its not in little packets, it's not prepacked. we also don't carry any plastic spoons, forks or knifes as well, so you can't try it on a spoon.
It's
1cup red wine vinegar
1tsp salt, shake until dissolved
Then lastly
1cup olive oil
You're sauce recipe is wrong my man, check the book.
It's 1/3 cup of vinegar...
isn't there soy sauce in it?
soy sauce is in the tuna salad recipe
The same thing happened with us in Scottsdale, AZ. My husband tried to pick up a sandwich for me to take to work the next day. Ridiculous.
I also don't like the bread soggy. I used to get the dressing on the side, in a cup, all the time.
One day they just stopped doing it for me. I've gone back twice since then, and finally gave up because of the soggy bread. I even offered to bring in my own little solo cups with lids - no go.
After two letters to corporate I have learned that this is not their only silly policy. They apparently have another policy in place which keeps them from responding to their customers' correspondence.
I don't like Subway as much, so I don't buy sandwiches of this type very often anymore.
But when I do it's from them. I do call Jimmy Johns a time or two per year to ask if they've relented though.
One of the keys to Jimmy John's business model is the speed factor. In order to execute properly (drive thru, delivery, catering, and inshop), they are some things they can't do.
For example, they don't toast or heat subs. They only carry one type of cheese. They have limited delivery areas.
Putting ingredients on the side falls into this category, as well, because if you do it for one customer you have to do it for all. That slows down the process considerably.
Indeed, most quick serve restaurants don't put ingredients on the side for this same reason.
If Jimmy John's didn't make their own sauce, then giving out pre-packaged sauce would be possible (which is why they can give Hellman's mayo packets on the side). Since the sauce is made in-store, it isn't possible to put it on the side.
I don't speak for corporate, of course, but I used to work for their corporate stores when I was in college.
I, for one, wouldn't want JJ's to switch to a packaged sauce. It's unfortunate that you are boycotting them now, but I think they are making the right choice.
Truth be told jimmy johns is about speed. They don't have side cups or give samples for the same reason they don't toast subs and only have one type of cheese - time. I've worked there and at subway, and when people have too many options it slows everything down.
